How Does Coaching with Joanne Work?
Joanne always begins with learning from the client what has inspired them to work with a Life Coach. For some, it may be time for a life transition involving a change of job or career path, a personal relationship, or familial status. Others seek coaching during a crisis period for strategies to cope with a situation that might otherwise feel overwhelming. And still others feel that they are sleepwalking through life and would like to wake up!
Regardless of the impetus, Joanne acknowledges what the client has as a goal, and listens for what may be in the way, where things are a bit "stuck." She utilizes her own intuitive sense when working with a client, and follows where the client is in the moment. Depending upon the learning style of the client, Joanne may be practical and logical in her approach, or she may tap into the client's kinesthetic awareness and work from that more visceral level. Regardless, Joanne is straight forward. She has the facility to “reframe” a situation or belief, and regularly uses reality checks for her own learning. "The client always leads the process, it's his/her work. My role is notice and identify patterns, feedback collective information, and facilitate growth by holding the space for change to occur."
To enable every client the opportunity for measurable change, Joanne has created a structure to her Coaching. Each potential client has an initial, free phone consultation for about fifteen minutes. If this phone meeting feels mutually successful, an in-person meeting is scheduled. This will be the first in a series of six coaching sessions. Each of these sessions will last for one hour, and the frequency of the meetings (which may be by phone) is dependent upon the nature of the work and the needs of the client. What Kind of Consulting is Offered?
Since the inception of Apples and Oranges Business and Personal Organizing in 2000, Joanne has been providing support to small and medium-sized businesses throughout New England. She has offered day-to-day organizational strategies for individual employees and business owners, and as the business grew Joanne became aware of the importance of noticing and sharing her observations about what interpersonal systems seem to be working and which ones do not. This includes systems between employees, departments, and client-business relationships. "Sometimes it's very difficult to be in a system and have the perspective of what is working and what isn't. In my experience, most folks want things to work. Someone may be unhappy with her job, or her work load, or her boss, but ultimately, she wants to feel good about coming to work everyday. When this is the basic operating force, it is possible to change the system to the benefit of the business, the associates, and the customers."
Joanne will typically meet directly with the business owners to understand the goal of the Consulting work. Depending upon the needs of the business, she may interview some key personnel to get a better understanding of what's happening, and work one-on-one with these individuals. One excellent barometer of what's happening in a small to mid-sized company is to conduct a review of the principals. It is often the leaders of a company that set the tone, and understanding how that filters through the system of the business can be a valuable tool for Joanne to suss out where meaningful change could happen.
