What is Equine Inspired Coaching?

Equine Assisted Personal Growth and Development is an emerging field combining the strengths and gifts of humans and horses.  The focus of the work is not on riding or horsemanship skills. Horses are simply the catalyst to promote positive personal exploration.  Research has shown, through relationships with animals, individuals gain useful insights into their own behavior.  This is the goal of Equine Inspired Coaching.  Lysa Wilkins explains, “Equine Inspired Growth is an experiential approach designed to offer valuable, unbiased information about how you are presenting yourself to the world.  More than that, you’ll learn that changes in your behavior or attitude have the impact to transform the world you live in.”

Why Horses?

Being a prey animal by nature, horses have a heightened sense of survival.  They need to be in tune with other herd members, and are conditioned to pick up on all changes within the environment or the herd.  This requires them to “be in the moment” at all times in order to receive important, possibly life saving, information.

Using this innate ability, horses naturally attune to a person’s demeanor and emotional state when invited to participate in a “human’s personal discovery work.”  They respond to a client’s behavior, offering feedback that may inspire a new perception of self.

The advantage to working with horses is that they are impeccably honest.  In order to influence or change the horse's behavior, the participant quickly learns to change his or her own behavior first.  It’s a beautiful, living, metaphor illustrating how powerful each individual is – both the horse, and the human!

About Lysa...

Lysa Wilkins coaches individuals and small groups with her inspired muse, Cini.  Since the age of five, Lysa has been riding horses.  Her connection to these powerful and compassionate animals has fostered her path toward personal growth and challenged Lysa to re-evaluate her personal beliefs about commitment, honesty, power, love and connection.  Lysa believes that bringing an individual into contact with horses helps them develop new skills and enhance existing talents.  “Through this work, it is possible to touch and explore a deeper consciousness.”

In addition to her Equine Inspired Coaching, Lysa co-facilitates group workshops with other coaches and licensed therapists.  Each of these workshops allows participants to heal past traumas through a combination of somatic and emotional release and reframing.  This is a powerful modality that Lysa has experienced personally in her on-going journey toward deep personal growth.  Each workshop is designed to support the mind, body, and spirit of every individual, cutting through the stuck places, and fostering one’s ability to live and love fully.

Ride for the Cure, Massachusetts

In addition, Lysa has combined her love for horses with another endeavor close to her heart; raising awareness and funds to fight Breast Cancer.  Lysa’s mother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2003.  In 2008, to mark her mother’s 5th year of surviving this disease, Lysa teamed up with Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the Ride for the Cure, Massachusetts.  This is an Inspirational Equestrian Event that brought over 100 riders, survivors and their horses together to help find a cure for this deadly disease. In its first year the Ride for the Cure, MA raised over $75,000 for the Komen Foundation.

One rider and a 3 time survivor wrote “Thank you just does not seem enough for all you have done to make today a reality.  It was a day filled with fun, and most of all a time to reflect. I had the wonderful opportunity to send my group ahead, and walk on alone, just to think about the past five years since my last diagnosis. What I did not get to share with you, is that my horse Danny was my get well gift to myself when I completed chemo. (He is my 1st horse and a dream since I was 5 years old) How poignant to have the opportunity to help others battling this disease with the one who helped me BE a Survivor. Peace to you, and thank you a thousand times.”

This ride is now an annual event.  For 2009, Lysa is even more dedicated and passionate about making a difference as yet another woman close to her heart has been diagnosed with this disease and is in the fight for her life.  If you would like to learn more about this Event, please follow this link www.rideforthecurema.org
